I am recently amazed by the title track on starless, simply a masterpiece, the ending, like the last minute or so is crazy. They sort of build their songs up to a climax in the same fashion tool does alot of times. I kind of compare them to a mixture of tool, pink floyd, and the moody blues. Very unique, and bruford is the **** on drums, and their bassist is quite good too forget his name though...
KC has had a variety of bassists...Tony Levin IMO is their best, but the ones you are thinking of would be John Wetton who played on Starless and Bible Black as well as Larks Tongue In Aspic and Red, and Greg Lake who Played on In The Court Of The Crimson King...Also, Peter Giles played on In The Wake Of Poseidon, Gordon Haskell played on Lizard, Boz Burrell played on Islands and Tony Levin has played on Discipline, Beat, Three Of A Perfect Pair and THRAK.

King Crimson have had many lineup changes, other than having gone through 6 bassists, they have also gone through 6 drummers, 5 vocalists, 2 saxophonists/flautists, 1 violinist and 4 session musicians...Also in 1982 they hired Adrian Belew as a second guitarist and he has been in the band ever since (also providing vocals) and Trey Gunn has played chapman stick and warr guitar on Crimsons last 3 studio albums, chapman and warr are unusual instruments that are in some ways a link between guitar and bass.

In short, Crimson only has one member who has appeared on every album, which is Robert Fripp.
