Fennesz and Ryuichi Sakamoto - Flumina (2011), ambient, modern classical, glitch
After a chilly morning of cycling with a friend, I'm recharging in bed with my Sennheisers and some great ambient music via an independent fork of the Subsonic project called Ultrasonic. Flumina is my second album after initially tuning in to the duo's 2007 collaboration, Cendre.
Each are cerebrally-engaging fragile soundscapes of minimal piano and atmospheric electronic music with an ethereal and organic quality.
These recordings, along with the work Sakamoto has produced with Alva Noto are my favorites of his catalog.
And each are best-enjoyed in a warm bed with a quality pair of circumaural cans to really transport the listener into the world these albums create.
Lovely stuff.
