Honestly I think Oasis sound older than The Smiths, and that doesn't mean they are better or worse for it. Just that Oasis' very simple sound (distorted power chord, basic rock n roll drum beats, bass playing root notes, pentatonic guitar solos) as well as their typical arrogant rock attitude fits in better with the rock of the seventies than it does in the nineties. Obviously youve got the whole Britpop thing but Oasis were far more traditional than the rest of the bands in that movement.
