I’m always up for something new, so I’ll give the thread a try.
A brief summary of what I know I like: I have over 22,000 electronic recordings, 10,000 of which are in the ambient umbrella of subgenres, centering around ambient house, downtempo, chill-out, future jazz, deep house, ambient dub, intelligent D’n’B, space music, microsound, glitch, leftfield, progressive house, and turntablism.
My favorite musical elements are abstract soundscapes and structures, elements of musique concrete, drone, and an influence of jazz and modern classical. Much of my favorite electronic music is beatless or focuses on atmospheric characteristics with a natural and organic feel.
A few favorites would include:
A Winged Victory For The Sullen
Alva Noto & Ryuichi Sakamoto
Biosphere
Black Swan
Bonobo
Carbon Based Lifeforms
Deaf Center
Deathprod
Fennesz
Future Sound of London
Gas’ Gas Box 10LP set
Hidden Orchestra
Keith Kenniff’s work as both Goldmund and Helios
Lemon Jelly / Fred Deakin / “Frank Eddie“ (I love all 112 albums and sessions)
LTJ Bukem
Pantha du Prince’s This Bliss LP
Skalpel
St Germain
Telefon Tel Aviv’s Fahrenheit Fair Enough LP
The Black Dog’s Music for Real Airports
The Cinematic Orchestra
The Orb
and deeper cuts from Underworld (535 of their albums and shows to date in my library)
As the list above suggests, there is a strong 90s focus on my electronic repertoire, trailing off at around 2009. The only contemporary electronic releases I’ve picked up in the last decade have been by veteran artists, like Gas’ brilliant Narkopop LP. I’m curious if anything interesting has happened in the decade since that I might enjoy.
