Yeah Lynott was was definitely Irish, had an Irish parent as well so raised there and ancestry there.
It is odd though it's just parents or grandparents. Country of birth + whatever country your parents or grandparents were born in. Plus eligibility in cases of naturalisation e.g. Raheem Sterling or Diego Costa. I'd be eligible for four national teams under these current rules.
The rules are quite strict compared to other sports though. Eoin Morgan is a born and bred Dubliner with no connection to England but is the England cricket captain. They must allow anyone to play for them.
