The importance of
Bill Monroe cannot be overstated. The entire genre of bluegrass is credited to his band the Blue Grass Boys and he’s known as the Father of Bluegrass. Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs were members of the band and one classic lineup included Monroe on mandolin, Flatt on guitar, and Scruggs on banjo. My take is each of the three deserve a solid third of the credit for developing the distinct bluegrass sound. It’s also worth understanding that old timey country music had been building into bluegrass for several years. In many ways bluegrass parallels punk rock in its explosive distinctive flavor and in precursors.
