I think you should try taking your own advice. There has been consistent use of tear gas for years, dropping off in 2015-2016 some. The point is, this is not a new thing. Oh, and go watch Tim Pool or someone equally credible who reviews multiple news sources on any given subject. You need to evaluate a few different sources of information on these stories, especially the emotionally charged ones where all available information isn't being put forward.
