I'm saying you correlate the wrong things based on an outdated way of thinking. People are discovering music in ways that were unimaginable even half a decade ago. The rules of what is dated or "relevant" don't mean much in an era where somebody who is, say, 16 years old is listening unironically to Mariya Takeuchi's PLASTIC LOVE on YouTube or Spotify at the same time he's picking up a Death Grips EP.
