It’s not my job anymore, thankfully. The black kids already had language for it: “talk white” and “write white”. Some of the black kids wanted higher common core scores to get out of remedial double block reading. Some of them had very gentle dispositions that made the more raucous “ghetto” and “bump” classes less to their liking. I just said if you want to get higher tests scores and take advanced classes you have to “write white” on the standardized testing. If you want I can help you with that. If they were like “ok” I corrected their written assignments to match their language with the oppressive power structure. If they were ambivalent about it I let them write however they wrote.
