Man, I don't even know how to describe what Radio Birdman were doing. If punk hadn't happened they'd have been the wildest rebels around but with punk existing the phrase that springs to mind is "revolutionary traditionalism". It's punk that doesn't eschew the aesthetics of rock as it came before, but rather tries to express them in a way that seemlessly reinvents the wheel while somehow never falling into dated territory. It's effortless but still sounds more ambitious than 99% of their peers. I feel like this is the album elph and Chula could shake hands on and an easy top 5 punk album for 77.
