That's one way to look at the carnival ride. Not the only way. Certainly not the way I looked at it.

Society didn't 'want' me to take any paths. I needed a job to buy food, pay rent, have fun, etc. And then after the first kid I chose to try and make more money. Society didn't push me - I just had more mouths to feed.

Question: If you choose not to conform to some path out of defiance, or rebellion, or in some cases, pure laziness, then what's the alternative?
