Right, i agree with that. Some words are definitely more hurtful than others but retard has been used as a humilliating word to ridicule and bully handicapped kids as well as humilliating normal kids when they make a mistake. I compared it to deaf because jwb brought up the blind comparison and those are conditions that were inflicted on you and you have no agency over them and when society has coined them as insults thats bound to hurt some ppl suffering from that condition and if enough ppl like that are flat out telling you those words hurt them, why keep on saying them?
To sum it up, i would prefer sacrificing some words for the sake of reforming our language for future generations. Because as our tolerance and our understanding evolves so should our language.
