I think it's the diversity. People (I'm thinking casual listeners mainly) remember their standout tracks displaced from the bloated album and assume it's the best album.

I would've cut it down to:

Helter Skelter
Back in the U.S.S.R
Revolution 1
Happiness Is a Warm Gun
Birthday
Rocky Raccoon
Martha My Dear
Dear Prudence
Julia
While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Start off heavy then mellow out. Like a fat baby.
