I put it badly, but what I meant is that the general structure, aims, sonic embellishments and other such elements within his music are very much comparable to those found in a lot of other music that is routinely classified as indie.
Sufjan Stevens is a typical indie/alternative artist. He isn't folk, though his music could be classified as 'folky'. Essentially, though, it fits conveniently within the ambit of indie pop.
