Voted for Classic, but Blues and Progressive are my favorites, though I do like a number of alternative bands, and some jazz that falls outside rock, I guess.
Led Zep - Students and IMHO one of the best modern performers of the blues.
Genesis - One of the seminal artists in prog
Procol Harum is one of the few I have found that was able to successfully combine the two.
