I agree that people can and should be honest about their feelings about someone's lyrics/poems. The way they say it, though, makes a big difference:
Destructive and hurtful (criticizes the person):
"This sucks. Everything you write I will laugh at derisively. How can you be so stupid that you don't see how stupid your lyrics are?"
vs.
Constructive and helpful (critiques the lyrics):
"I don't like the topic you are writing about because it is one that many songs deal with. I also wish the lyrics had more structure, such as meter and rhyming."
