Some of the articles put out by NASA scientists are rough, hypothesized solutions to problems we can't really fix or do at the moment. For example putting giant orbiting mirrors around Mars and concentrate the sun on it's poles to warm it up and release carbondioxide into it's thin atmosphere. They sometimes say something like "we estimate this technology to be available in year 2XXX" so there's much thinking ahead.
