I've always wanted to get into Madlib, but I've never had a clue where to start. I've heard some of his stuff, though. I really don't like his rapping (sped-up voice is hard to take seriously). I think I said in the general music suggestions thread that I was looking for his instrumental stuff.
What I meant was that I didn't want Quantisisimo (or whatever). I know he's backed some very, very talented MC's. I'll be willing to take an album he produced for another MC (or group of MC's) as long as the MC is real (or sings about what he actually has the right to sing about. You know, like, not rapping about a car he doesn't have? It's fine if he's rapping about a car he DOES have. Material bragging is fine with me, if it's honest material bragging. I can hear the difference from a mile away. I just can. Even if it's about that.)
With that in mind, what's a good place to start with for this insane turntableist/producer?
