I'm not sure if you prefer listening to music via headphones or just haven't bought speakers yet. But there's some nice active speakers on the market for the price of your headphones (each
). You won't need an amp for those.

I love a good pair of headphones, but it's not quite the same as listening to speakers. And I like to be able to walk around while I listen to music now and then
About record players: There's no really GOOD Player you can hook up to your laptop. These USB things are crap. All of them
You can buy a NAD PP3 phono preamp you can hook up to your laptop and get a nice second hand turntable. You can buy decent players for under $40 that kick the ass of every under $200 new player available now.
