I'm going to counter that with the fact that they very obviously understand exactly what kind of world we live in. They understand that a LARGE portion of the population wants to isolate themselves from a lot of the unpleasantness; same as a lot of people want the convenience of fast food, a lot of people want the simplicity of thoughtless rock music.

Their sales of around 50 million units puts them on par (if not sadly above) groups like Black Sabbath, Oasis, Tom Petty, Willie Nelson, The Police, REM, Alice Cooper, Johnny Cash, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. They understand exactly what they are doing and if anyone honestly thinks for a second that they're any kind of hurt or upset by complaints and derision from people who 'know' what good music is then I strongly suggest watching a bit of wrestling until you grasp the full concept of a heel.

The complaints from the haters get them more press and attention than their PR.

Yes they certainly are.

I know that it's become a boring cliche to bitch about Nickelback, not to mention Avril Lavigne, but that really does sound like the one of the worst ideas I've ever heard. I actually hope that it's true, because I think that this might be so awful that it actually becomes entertaining. Sort of like if George W. Bush released a gangsta rap album.

I used to very much like Avril, but her last two albums overall left me really disappointed. The spunky chick she was is now a brand name. She never grew up.

Any hopes for another Let Go have been dashed with CHAD KROEGER as a songwriter on her new record...

Too much awful in one place.

Do any of you think that if Nickelback had a different band name, they wouldn't have garnered so much hate? It's so easy to make fun of Nickelback but their are so many ****ty bands out there also. I feel if their name was maybe "The Nickels", they wouldn't get picked on so much. Am I just pulling **** out of my ass or do any of you agree?

I can't really see what difference their name makes hahaha, the music would still be the same.
