I like Beefheart's representation in this with Safe as Milk and Trout Mask Replica. The Gilberto Gil choice was great too. Brazil has had some absolutely amazing music that never got the attention it deserved. Other bands/musicians that come to mind include Novos Baianos, Jorge Ben, Chico Buarque. It's a shame that Bossa Nova is really the only Brazilian genre to reach mainstream success in the U.S. Rio de Janerio had an amazing soul scene that I'm just starting to discover too.

Just to knit-pick, I think Highway 61 should have been a bit higher for the '65 albums. I'm a Dylan nut so maybe I'm biased though, I don't know.

[QUOTE=streetwaves;890408]Pet Sounds is definitely better than Revolver![/QUOTE

It's different certainly. Better? No. Like comparing Apples to oranges.

I like Pet Sounds a lot more than Revolver.

Anyway, it's a shame this guy/girl wandered off.

1980:

1. Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables

Some of the best lyrics to grace hardcore punk, if not the best. Jello Biafra's vocal delivery is perfect, and quite reminiscent of Tom Lehrer's sarcastic political songs from years before. Also, a fantastic cover of 'Viva Las Vegas'.

2. Talking Heads - Remain in Light
3. The Feelies - Crazy Rhythms
4. The Cramps - Songs the Lord Taught Us
5. Joy Division - Closer

1981:

1. The Gun Club - Fire of Love

One of the greatest albums of all time - more to say about it later.

2. Adolescents - Adolescents
3. Minor Threat - Minor Threat
4. Crass - Penis Envy
5. Raincoats - Odyshape

1982:

1. Antena - Camino del Sol

This gorgeous little album just seems to come and go, as if carried by by the wind. Bossa nova meets art pop & synthesizers.

2. The Birthday Party - Junk Yard
3. The Fall - Hex Enduction Hour
4. Subhumans - The Day the Country Died
5. The Cure - Pornography

By the way, I also updated 1977. #1 goes to Augustus Pablo's "King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown".
