I would rank "Deadwing" as on par with "In Absentia". "Fear of a Blank Planet" is my favorite PT album as well: the 17-minute Anesthetize might be their best track. Plus, with guest stars of Alex Lifeson from Rush and Fripp from Crimson... tough to beat.

Agreed. Anesthetize is a brilliant song. I hope their next album is a good one. The Incident was decent. The first 6 tracks are pretty damn good; then it gets mediocre until the last 3 or so tracks. I hate to say it, because when they're good, they are really good (FOABP is one of my fav rock albums of all time); but they don't have many consistent albums. I really want to like all of their albums, but, IMO, only three of them are consistently good - The Sky Moves Sideways, Signify, and Fear. Just my opinion, of course.

Well, it's all a matter of opinion. It really depends on your taste in music. Personally, I like only a few of their 11 albums. Three albums from their earlier, psychedelic period - Up the Downstair, The Sky Moves Sideways and Signify; and one album from their later, prog-rock/metal period - Fear of a Blank Planet (their best overall, IMO). Not that they don't have good songs on all of their albums; but those are their most consistent albums. Again, only my opinion. If you like the harder stuff, I'd recommend Fear of a Blank Planet, then go from there. If you're more into psychedelic, ala Pink Floyd, I'd start with either The Sky Moves Sideways or Signify, and go from there.

Porcupine Tree is one of the most inventive bands around today, but they certainty won't resonate with everyone. As SgtMeowenstein put it, "it's all a matter of opinion," with which I agree.

I will also mention that you have to really pay attention to Porcupine Tree's albums or they will pass you by. Many of their musical intricacies are very subtle, and if you don't really pay attention, you will miss the best parts of their music. Many people claim that PT are boring, but I think many of those people aren't hearing the the subtle musical intricacies, to which I'm referring. Steven Wilson is the band leader and song writer, and he just released a great solo album ("Grace for Drowning") Here's "Raider II" from that album, which is a 24-minute track that is very reminiscent of King Crimson "Lizard" era.

I really like this album and really rate Steven Wilson , i do understand what people say though , it took me 2 or 3 times listening to it before i really appreciated it.

This album was my introduction to Porcupine Tree, and I swallowed it hook, line, and sinker. Now, I acknowledge that a few tracks aren't perfect or anything, but "Gravity Eyelids" instantly sold me on the effort. Bought the album based on the track, and never looked back.

It's definitely a solid album with brilliant songs. Hard to soft, gentle and mysterious. Gravity Eyelids is one of my favourite PT songs, and I'd say the album is up there with Deadwing.
