My opinion on death metal doesn't carry much weight, I love metal and punk/hardcore as musical genres but I'm pretty picky when it comes to extreme stuff. A lot of it sounds too similar.

Demolition Hammer is way better than Morbid Saint. Morbid Saint tried to combine Slayer with Darkness Descends and failed horribly ("Crying for Death" is good though). Epidemic of Violence is death/thrash done right.

Yes the NYC was definitely a more hardcore inspired scene with all the crossover thrash bands like Carnivore, the Crumbsuckers and metal inspired hardcore like the Cro mags, while bands like Testament seem much more Diamond Head inspired.
I just happen to be revisiting thrash metal at the moment so I'll give the album a whirl, thanks.

I was just getting into Crumbsuckers a little while ago. Nice ****. Leeway were pretty rad too.

i haven't heard the Crumbsuckers in years, all I can recall is their first album was more hardcore & the second more metal, which makes sense for the time period.
I've never heard of Leeway, and I imagine your familiar with Ludichrist (another NYC crossover thrash outfit) you might also want to check out the straight edge bands if you haven't already (Gorilla Biscuits, Judge ect) Bob's department though, I'm more of a GBH, Amebix kind of guy.

I've heard some Judge and they're alright. GBH is definitely nice, but I'm not big on Amebix.

GBH is good fun, you might like Broken Bones if you like them, as for Ambeix, they're are an aquired taste, but I quite like the Arise album.
The UK isn't the first place I think of when I think of thrash metal, but so far these guys f'n rock. Pretty sure I can hear a NYC influence in there.
