I think, it's association with thrash and all the extreme metal that came after, and the NWOBHM influence and Iron Maiden and Saxon and the God Damn Mutha****in Diamond Head and just how immediate and unfiltered the influence was on a bunch of angry teenagers on speed just made it the greatest expression of 80s metal ever recorded.

Oh, and to anyone who somehow has never heard Diamond Head, this was the direct inspiration of thrash metal basically. I prefer the Metallica version, as it is heavy as ****ing balls, but the Diamond Head version, the original, is still bitchin' as ****.

I used to love Kill Em All, but with the more experience I get in metal, the more I see it lacking core areas.
It's not a thrash album, it exists in that abyss that Venom and Metal Church occupy known as speed metal; the riffs are too simple, it's not fast enough, and the guitar tone is morbid.

I prefer the Metallica version as well.
I just love the breakneck speed of Kill Em All, it's really the only Metallica album that rivals Slayer in that department. Ride the Lighting is good, but it just feels more sloggier and the guitar riffs aren't as catchy.
Speaking of Slayer and catchy riffs, I can't quite see the argument that is often made that Kreator rivals Slayer. Yes Kreator were talented and very hard hitting for their time, but they don't have any catchy riffs or songs I want to play over and over again. Kind of like listening to jazz really, but a lot of death metal to follow (Morbid Saint) ect, is really boring and monotonous, yawn.
Ps, Don't forgot to mention hardcore punks (Discharge, GBH's) as well as Motorhead's influence on thrash

From what I just heard of Demolition Hammer they sound all right.
My opinion on death metal doesn't carry much weight, I love metal and punk/hardcore as musical genres but I'm pretty picky when it comes to extreme stuff. A lot of it sounds too similar.
