Also, in their usercp, they could see the reason that a member gave for the rep + or - so if a member was flaming another member, the member being flamed could report it to a mod and what not, though I don't see that happening on here, everyone has seemed pretty cool with eachother lately.
Well the admins control all the settings on it, so it varies from forum to forum.

^Well then we could just keep it strcit at first to see if any problems do occur, and if they don't, then increase the privileges.

A rep system would be too messy, too general, if your going to reward someone be more specific, use an awards system, they're easy to put in too. And it's just left up to the mods then too cook up some nominations and a poll now and again, or put in some regular competitions, the showcase would be an easy place for one or two if it was used a little more.

I got talked into putting a rep system on my own forum and I've regretted it.

I know I've only just arrived but I wouldn't mind the introduction of a rep system; it works well on the other vBulletin boards that I visit. There's always the problem of pointless negative rep but the users dishing it out can get rep bans and the like.

I've seen a few posts here already that I'd love to give some positive rep to but when I've gone over to click the scales or the exclamation mark there's been a blank space.

I realise that it's not important to have a rewards scheme to get people posting (because people should be posting for the sake of discussion) but I think it's nice to give people a bit of recognition in the form of little blobs.

^Which could encourage better posts instead of the all too typical, "lol, this band sucks."

Yeah, I would hope so. That would only happen if rep was used in a sensible way (i.e. not giving it to your friends just because they're you're friends) and I think that could happen here. I haven't been around for long but it seems like this place attracts some intelligent people.

Yea, i enjoy when forums do this.

Not only that, but it cuts down on flaming a lot, because if a certain "stupid/wrong" post receives lot of negative ratings, then well, everyone will know that person was wrong.
