As assholish as this may sound, I have no desire to see MusicBanter evolve into that. We have an even mix of personality and knowledge. There is consistently strong content (from most members) and I don't want it to dissolve into a gigantic orgy like so many other music forums.

I tried Sputnik for about three minutes and realized how bad that place sucks. Nowhere in the entire fucking forum did people actually discuss music. It was just what that dude described: a bunch of pricks patting each other on the back and a few odd one-word album reviews.

I love MusicBanter. I don't want it to change.

I just want post-approval out of the window, and let moderation occur afterwards at the request of the journal members.

Maybe like a digg or bury for each post?

Being a newbie here I'm pretty sure it would turn into a popularity contest: as on many forums, I've found that all the members who know each other and have been here for a while tend to stick together and be a little skeptical of posts by members who they don't know or who are new. Also, people might give one-ups to people for their taste in music or opinion rather than post quality.

Conversation about what though, JH?

Sam does have a point. MB is one of the best forums I've seen around, and I don't mean for music. We've worked pretty hard to make this place worth visiting and not becoming a big billboard.

One other point of note, we can usually separate the wheat from the chaff. If you have a musical opinion and it is reasoned well, we will notice it. So don't get scared off too easily!
i am pretty much new here, joined a while back but dont post everyday but read through the posts a lot. the whole reason i joined was because i AM NOT an expert or have the musical knowledge a few here do. but that is the reason i joined to broaden my horizons so to speak... (have always loved music almost made a career of it i love it so much)

and well not exactly the most welcoming place not exaclty the most helpful, though some are... and i am not a ****ing whiner or confrontational person like some here, but you asked i told...

and here we go.....

You don't need to have brilliant musical knowledge to post here. The posts I enjoy reading the most are the ones were people talk passionately about what they love.

They only time you really need knowledge here is when you make up some bs statement that's been said a thousand times, and then you will get confronted to back up what you said.

Love of music>knowledge of music

I think it would be cool if we had a sub-forum in the MB Reader for live shows. Not just reviews of bands shows, but things like education threads on popular tours and such.
