While some members may manage to get in trouble all by themselves, I've been here long enough to notice that there are folks who tend to push others into reacting negatively, whether they realize it or not. New members that join this community don't know the dynamic here and often times they'll react when they feel cornered or challenged. To me, the result of such a scenario is not entirely the fault of the noob. While some may say "well if he can't deal and adapt, then he doesn't belong here", the fact of the matter is everyone should be given a chance to be a part of the community in a positive way. People are going to mess up, but our job as mods is to deal with that and give those people opportunities to correct themselves. I think I can speak on behalf of all the other mods in saying that while we don't expect everyone to like everyone here, we do ask that you give these people the opportunity to learn how this community flows and afford them the same chances to learn from mistakes that you'd afford yourself.
If certain members don't want to do that, then they are asked to simply leave the person alone.
I agree with this. I think after a certain point, poor Dirty never stood a chance because no matter what he did he was accused of being a troll and was provoked. He had a huge target on his back--perhaps deservedly so--and was getting ganged up on...

Which is all well and good providing the individual actually learns the ropes.
A temp ban won't do him any harm. I've banned members in the past for less than that and had them thank me only months later.
Nothing wrong with being hard, but fair.
Some members never get the message though. Once you put the ball in their court these types effectively end up banning themselves.

I can't agree with this. When someone digs themselves into a hole it's usually a wise decision to stop digging.

... and somehow still get propelled into some kind of foolish martyrdom.

As in stop posting, even if they are making fair posts (which he was doing up until the "Hot Dog Incident of 2010")?

Exactly.
I just think it'd be easier for someone to learn the ropes by not having people ripping into them as soon as they get back from punishment, which has happened in the past with a certain member that rhymes with poo poo. Although his case may not be the best to use as a comparison, but you get my drift.

That's not true, there were times him and I had good conversations.
And times I got really annoyed with him for trolling.
**** happens, and he chose to troll once again.

He can hold a good conversation too, it's a shame he's so inappropriate.

You've just answered your own question.

Yeah, but I'm saying he was being provoked before he posted that image. Check out all of the "fails", "poor man's CC" and "just go aways" in that thread, despite the fact that other members were leaving "LOL" and "" after his posts...

(I can't be certain which page he posted the Hot Dog because it seems the thread has experienced some plastic surgery)

Certainly. I guess the lesson of boo boo should be learnt by infracting, or even temp banning those who rip into him unfairly on his return.
Like I said, the ban won't do him any harm.
An apology for his behaviour wouldn't do him any harm either.
