I was about to mention This Will Destroy You and If These Trees Could Talk. I've never heard of Mooncake though.

Yeah, I've listened to those all before. TWDY are decent, but pretty redundant. A new album will have to be incredible for me to take them seriously.

Mogwai just seem to try too hard. Their dynamics, build-ups/crescendos are done all wrong, and it never gets to a point of intensity. What's post-rock without build-ups anyways?

Their studio albums all made a little more sense to me after i listened to Government Comissions which is a collection of their Peel sessions.

On a slighty different note i am hoping to go and see MAYBESHEWILL on Thursday. I've seen them before but in a support slot that gave them about 15 minutes. I'm pretty excited.

Do Make Say Think anyone? They don't get mentioned much on MB, but they're pretty intense.

I like them. Besides EP is pretty good. Grails are doing it for me although they are a little heavier than your average Post Rock fare but the better for it methinks.

Now that I think of it, Grails are probably my favorite post-rock band other than Sigur Ros. What I like about heavy post-rock is there's no way for it to be boring, while with most of the more ambient stuff, it's easy to lose the listeners attention.

What's everybody's opinions on GY!BE on this site? I find them to be one of the most lasting Post-Rock bands out there. Incredible range in their music.

Oh, and I agree with DMST. Some class stuff, my sister loved them and they transferred onto me.

Grails are awesome - not your average Post Rock affair at all.

Post-rock is more interesting with folk and electronic elements IMO, but we aren't seeing as much of that lately.

One group that has been largely left out of the discussion here (and I'm not sure why) is Tristeza. "A Colores" was brilliant. Same with the Mercury Program. They're fantastic at what they do.
