Both Henry Cow and Art Bears rock my socks. Im mostly into Henry Cows first two albums (Legend and Unrest) whilst if i want to listen to Art Bears i tend to put on Hopes and Fears.

Luuub this group. Both western culture and In Praise Of Learning are excellent releases. And yeah, Art Bears are awesome as well. Fred Frith is definitely a genius. They've influenced quite a few other bands as well, although most of em are unknown. "Rock in Opposition" sounds somewhat stupid now though. I guess it was kinda a needed movement back then.

Henry Cow are pretty great. Soft Machine comparisons are quite apt though they have a more individual sound than that comparison may suggest and they also lack the sense of humour. The sleeve of 'Leg End' is proof enough of this. Fred Frith's solo stuff is also worth investigating if you find yourself interested in this type of stuff.

I've always been interested in listening to some of Hentry cow's stuff, but have never got around to it since there are always so many other bands I'm checking out. I'm suprised that some of the download links from 2007 still work

Might as well start this thread back up. Skaligojurah reminded me of these guys in another thread topic, so I revisited them. At the time when I first listened to their music, I was looking into industrial. I've listened to their debut and their second album. They're really interesting and complex, but there is supposed to be some meaning. Is anyone interested in starting a discussion about them? I'd really like to dive down into their music.

I personally like Henry Cow but strangely enough I don't love them as much as the group of bands they helped accumulate together for RIO. With that said, Unrest is a masterpiece of fusion rock. Leg End is ok for an occasional listen, and think they tend to overbloat when the fused with Slapp Happy. Which hurt the band because what they were developing instrumentally kind of had to compete with their will to push forward Krause's vocals.

However, Art Bears I feel sort of remedies this big time by cutting down the numbers, and such. I can't help to feel though if they would have continued the evolution going from Leg End to Unrest(best album of the two groups) without fusing with Slapp Happy than they could have done something even more amazing.

Still though, Amazing group, and Cutler's dedication to the development of experimental prog through the 70s and 80s is by far one of the most admirable in music.
