On Lulu, he sounds like an old man who's seen it all. And he probably was exactly that. Much of it, his vocals don't work for me, but some golden moments, there's a world of hurt and life experience in his voice. It's the main thing that keeps me from agreeing when people say Lulu was garbage.

He's never going to be a favorite of mine, but at least I can see your side of the coin.

I hate old man vocals of any kind

which sucks for me because it means any rock band I like comes with an expiration date

it's like you could have written this song, you had all the tools, but you didn't and in fact you wouldn't have even given 100 years of playing

How much longer you think Mark E. Smith's got?

I'm not that fond of Fall material past like 2010 and even then it's just some tracks here and there once we get outside the 90's

I digress but like this is undeniable indie rock

as if he decided to show the kids how it's done

I've never said it, but I feel about the same: I can't even enjoy the mighty Bob Dylan on his recent albums.
Mick Jagger is doing pretty well, but really, you gotta be an angry young man to be a proper rock vocalist imo.
