Default Krzysztof Penderecki

Been having a great time with this. Some mad classical stuff, chaotic and off the chain compared to your Bachs and your Mozarts and your Enyas. A good study of dissonance and tension too.

Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima is his most notable work

A masterpiece of frightening orchestration.

Kosmogonia is a great one too.

really builds the madness

He's an all-time 20th C heavyweight champion.

I love many of his early works, Threnody and Polymorphia feel more like student study pieces IMO

I absolutely love:

Utrenja
Devils of Loudrun (opera)
Symphony #1
St Luke Passion
Partita for harpsichord and orchestra
Cello Concerto

I consider Threnody one of the most pioneering compositions of the 20th C.

Idk, it still feels like Pithoprakta (by Xenakis) thrown in an aleatoric blender.
Not bashing it, it's a powerful piece (and I'm so stoked it featured in a recent Twin Peaks episode) but IMO he peaked as a composer with Symphony no 1, St Luke Passion and The Devils of Loudrun

I love how such compositions can truly evoke very strong feelings! I was just having a happy cup of morning coffee... and, when I started listening, immediately, the feeling of impending doom was upon me. Wow!

Thanks, though! I truly enjoyed those.
