Anybody interested in post-punk or weird avant-garde stuff should give this compilation a listen. As it says on the tin it's a compilation of Irish post-punk and electronic songs from 1980 to 1983, there's some very rare stuff here and I wasn't even aware of most of these bands. Some people might be familiar with The Virgin Prunes, who are present here, but there's a lot of music here that hasn't been heard by many ears until this. It's pretty ramshackle at times but it's all good.

I'm sure they will have been mentioned but The Cranberries. They are one of my all time favourite bands and years later they still perform live exceptionally.

Irish Bands:
Thin Lizzy - Nice to hear once in a while
Van Morrison - of course
Rory Gallagher - I can't believe I have never heard of him before recently.
Boomtown Rats - A Tonic for the Troops is one of my fav albums

Bands that play "Irish" music:
Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys are both good fun. I saw Dropkick last year in a small hall. It was probably one of the 2 or 3 loudest shows I have been to.
Irish music played hard and fast (i.e. celtic punk) works well.

From one of the best albums of the year so far. A brilliant collision of math-rock and post-hardcore.

One from Newfoundland has interested me for some time, "Ryan's Fancy". Basically pure folk. Then there is the punk group "Stiff Little Fingers" from Ulster.
