I'm looking forward to the release of Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni Ba's Jama Ko album next week. Very nice write-up on the album in the latest issue of Songlines magazine.

Depending on your style (sorry did not read all 20 someodd pages) for newer give The Avett Brothers a listen. If you want some older decent folk/country Michael Martin Murphy, Jim Croce ETCETC

John Fahey fans hereabouts should enjoy Daniel Bachman. He describes his sound as "psychedelic appalachia". Hunt down his Seven Pines album- it's fantastic.

I've been into a lot of Nordic folk music lately, especially Finnish folk. Is there any stuff you would recommend?

I'm looking for Johnny Cash recommendations because I'm not certain which ones would really appeal to me. My first Cash CD that I purchased was At Folsom Prison, which floored me. The next CD that I bought after that was American VI: Ain't No Grave, which I thought was okay. I think what bothered me the most about American VI: Ain't No Grave is that it felt like it had a lot more to do with religion than At Folsom Prison, which isn't really my sort of thing. At Folsom Prison did have a few religious songs here and there, but it felt more balanced. I liked the songs Folsom Prison Blues, Cocaine Blues, 25 Minutes to Go, Long Black Veil, Jackson, and Legend of John Henry's Hammer the most on that CD. Can someone recommend me any of his other CD's that isn't too heavy with the religious aspect and is in a similar vein to some of the songs mentioned?

He's actually a really interesting guy...actually known more for his art than his music initially. He was kind of pushed into ever putting his music online for people to hear.
