The Country, Folk & World Recommendation Thread

I know Nile but I somehow could never accept the flavour of a full-metal-piece regarding ancient oriental lore... This solo-project sounds very nice. Going to check it out. Probably the best recommendation so far!

@The Batlord: It's not a problem that I am going to use this music for my trippy purposes isn't it? I call myself a mystic and a philosopher. I try to create mystic experiences not only by using drugs but also by expanding my mind via thinking. The mystic experience on the first hand is what I need to apply philosophy to it because I am a critical-minded person and not some kind of esoteric-believing person.

Last but not least am I a musician myself always searching for new influences as I use my mystic experiences and applied philosophy to create music myself.

I can't claim to be familiar with it but, oddly enough, I stumbled across this just yesterday while I was surfing for music on YouTube...

This sub-forum hasn't received a single post in a over a week, but there's plenty of powerful music out there, even if MB turns a deaf ear to it. Here are a two samples from Parno Grazst, a band from Hungary, for example. The first is pretty catchy; the second, rougher round the edges, is live from their home village :-

Lisnaholic, ... just stumbled across Ali Farka Touré. The first song, Lalayche, reminds me a little bit of Shake Your Hips (Rolling Stones, Exile On Main St.), if you like that kinda stuff you probably like his music.

Chirgilchin's Igor Koshkendey paying obvious tribute to Oidupaa Vladimir Oiun's Oidupaa style and accompanying himself on an bayan (a russian accordeon).
Sublimely beautiful stuff.

^ Thanks, Neapolitan! Yes, I like Ali Farka Touré a lot, especially his songs with long guitar solos. He has a great collaboration album with Ry Cooder called Talking Timbuktu - and if you like desert blues yourself, you might like this album:- http://www.musicbanter.com/country-f...no-agadez.html

Ali Farka Touré's son is also a good musician in his own right, highly regarded on the world music scene, as demonstrated by the Tel Aviv Session album. This is also a collaboration album, with pianist Idan Raichel among others:-

I usually avoid the New Age fringes of world music, but I'm prepared to make an exception for Red Buddha and their album China Exotic. (I came across it a while ago when I looking for some Stomu Yamashta material, but, in case you are wondering, there is actually no connection between "Red Buddha" and SY's "Red Buddha Theatre".)
