LOL. Not exactly the experience I'm seeking through my music.

Default World Music?

Hey everybody- I was wondering if I could get some help with finding world music... Just go ahead and list anything you this would be worth exploring and getting a better sense of what world music really is. I know this is kind of a vague and far reaching question- but that's okay. I'm looking to expand my music tastes.

There`s plenty of world music in among the English-language folk.

Has anybody heard Marc Ribot's Los Cubanos Postizos recordings? They are two of my favourite albums and I have been trying to find some more Cuban music that could be similar but I haven't had much luck. I really like the quirky, fun attitude and I'm a bit of a Ribot fanatic. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions!

And vote for Putumayo! I'm sure you would enjoy that sample of African music.

Also, I shamelessly invite you to pick random songs from my thread on Argentina. I may post some things more "exotic", if you want.

Mat Sweet, AKA Boduf Songs, folk musician that manages to create some very beautiful and dark songs. Probably not for everyone, but he really knows how to marry beauty and horror in a way that doesn't compromise the integrity of the genre.

Sounds ok, maybe a little reminiscent of Iron and Wine. Will give him a further listen though.

I just went to Sweden and i've got to say I love the peoples taste of music here. First aid kit is crazy nice!

I heard some guys calling themselves "The Bland Band" playing in the streets a few days ago, some kind of country. Youtube them, it's a gass!

Enya's first album, "The Celts" is labeled as World music, The groups Anuna, Celtic Thunder, and Celtic Woman are good too, obviously all have Celtic leanings.

One of the great things about world music is that it`s such a limitless, catch-all genre.
Who, for instance, would imagine a band from this century devoting themselves to the works of a little-known London Jewish big-band leader from the 1950`s ? Certainly not me, until I came across this clip:-

Don`t have much info on these guys as they don`t seem to have recorded a cd yet; just a handful of Youtube clips ( of which this is the best ) and a rather scant website:-
