Very fun stuff you posted Lisa. Actually, doesn't summer vacation all around the world pretty much come from the time that kids were supposed to go out into the fields and work?

I have been getting into balafon music. Fun to play at work and great for focus/calming. And it is happy (A balafon is like a xylophone).

That's an excellent record, Psy-Fi. Infectious rhythms.

^ Nice! made me think of Bidinte, who has lived between Guinea and Portugal. Perhaps he also counts as "From Africa to Hawaii" but got a bit lost en route:

^ On this track I really wish they'd paid the back-up singer a little more. That way she might've sung more than just one bar.

^ Yes, this is great music - soft but cheerful as you suggest. There's a beautiful track @ 20 mins, in which the balafon is accompanied by a violin.

^ I like the casual, impromtu start to this album, the shuffling guitar rhythms, and the way the music is not immediately, obviously Greek, the way some Greek music is.

I'd never heard of Omar Souleyman before, but I'm really enjoying his music, after being tipped off by rostasi. This is a video of such cool people and if I'd posted it yesterday, it would've been Fathers' Day topical too:-
