I just got Five Leaves Left. It's a really beautiful album. I'm kind of sour for not getting it sooner.

When I first watched the commercial I **** bricks. I heard that a car company used Drake for a commercial before, but I didn't think that he would be used again. Not exactly mainstream marketing material.
Still pretty cool, though.

When I first discovered Nick, I felt as though his music was so timeless that it could have easily been recorded just moments ago. The intertwining lyrics and haunting guitar took me on a musical journey that seemed to speak to who I really was, and since that night his music and story has been an obsession of mine that I revisit quite frequently.

Before Drake, I hadn't purchased an album in nearly five years. I felt as though it was insulting to simply leech off the internet to listen to his music, so I immediately purchased 2 albums that the local music store had in stock (including A Skin Too Few), and ordered the remaining one online.

My favorite Nick drake song always seems to change, from Parasite, to Black Eyed Dog, to Riverman, and now I find myself enjoying Man In A Shed (Outtake).

Nick Drake seems to be such an integral part of who I am, at least musically, that I am so thankful for his genius and the fact that he was willing to share it with the world. Even though he was cremated, I think one day I may fly down to visit his grave and pay respect to him.

I'm surprised how well his music works for the commercials... Still doesn't sit too well with me... But I guess it kind of fits?

I'm having a tough time appreciating his non-Pink Moon albums. I think it was a bad place to start, as now everything just seems too full and bloated. I'll have to listen to 'Five Leaves Left' again with a more open mind.

I'm the same way.

I definitely like the solo Drake sound better. Pink Moon is excellent and some of the stuff that got on his 'Way to Blue' comp is good/great. But I find a lot of the songs on the other albums unlistenable. Often the strings and other embellishments kill it for me.

Sounds like I'm alone on this one but I find that Pink Moon manages to get repetitive even within its small duration of 28 min... but Bryter Layter is bliss. I still like PM though.

Well actually, I remember Boo Boo saying Hazey Jane wasn't bad which already means that Bryter Layter is worlds ahead of PM in his books.

Pink Moon is my desert island record. Such haunting beauty in the atmosphere he cultivates with no more than his voice and guitar (piano bit off the title track notwithstanding). Those elemental lyrics really complement the music itself too. I can't think of an album I've gotten lost in more frequently than this one.

As for his other two full-lengths, Bryter Layter is solid in its own right whereas I could never really get into Five Leaves Left. The orchestration is a tad too heavy-handed for me.

I've never thought what my desert island records would be. Well, people have asked a while back. And I spouted off a few favourites (Nevermind, Led Zeppelin IV blah blah blah) but thinking about it being a little bit older, listening to Nevermind in that environment would be shite.
