You want Americans to turn away from football and abandon it for soccer so soccer can globally be known as football like you feel it rightfully should be.

The truth is that it's the third most attended sport in the USA.

I don't like soccer. Nobody I know likes soccer either. However I do know there are some big-time fans out there in my country. Definitely wayyy more football fans, though.

about 24.4 million people play soccer in the US. Sounds reasonably big to me, since first hand participation rates are ussually lower than simply watching a sport on TV.
