^ Wow. The forces of nature are just brutal: this disaster has happened so fast, with fires at one point expanding at a rate of one football field per second. The confusion about escape routes seems paricularly tragic to me. In the movies, the hero hops in a car and escapes as a matter of course. The reality is that ordinary people find themselves making split-second life or death decisions without having the overall picture; just horrible.

^ Yes, and as for catastrophes that are increasing because of global warming, Trump's response to mass shooting incidents shows a similar lack of accountability. Did you see the grieving woman this morning, who lost her son at the Borderline Bar, saying, "I don't want thoughts. I don't want prayers. I want gun control." ? IMO she is right to be furious at the politicians with their glib condolences who won't shift from their NRA (or from their fossil fuel) agendas. I wish those politicians would just one time the victims, "That's bad luck. Today, for your sake, I'm going to put on my serious face on all the way to the bank."
