NPR - Are We Witnessing the Beginning of the End for Free Music Streaming?

This week, Spotify bowed to Universal's demands that they withhold certain albums from the free tier of listeners.

Spotify has always been absolutely useless for my particular music needs, but I understand that it is a major player in how people consume music. The pressures of the Copyright Royalty Board, coupled with Spotify's deal with Universal, Warner, and Sony Music threaten the longevity and functionality of the free and ad-supported listening tier.

Don't know how I missed the premiere of this vid in January. Pete Majarich spent all of 2016 creating A Movie Poster A Day. Here, in just 2 minutes, is the complete project.

Passengers on a United flight from Chicago to Louisville, Ky., were horrified when a man was forcibly removed — violently wrenched from his seat and physically dragged down the aisle — to clear a seat for airline staff.

United has not responded to NPR's requests for comment, but on Twitter, a representative of the airline said the flight in question was "overbooked" and that "one customer refused to leave."

"This is an upsetting event to all of us here at United," company CEO Oscar Munoz said in a statement. He said the airline is conducting a "detailed review" of what happened, and reaching out to the passenger in question.

Multiple videos and photos were posted on social media, and other passengers described the incident online — at first upset about the delay, and then horrified by the violent turn of events.
Passenger Forcibly Removed From United Flight, Prompting Outcry : The Two-Way : NPR

This is f*cking unbelievable. Video in the link. I'll never fly United again and I hope they go out of business. This will be fun to watch over the next few days. For the record, this isn't surprising coming from United, at least from me.

Their justification is that he was asked several times, which I don't get. Why even ask if he can't say no?

He said no because he legit had a place to be in the morning and didn't want to give up his seat which he paid for. I don't understand why airlines think it's okay to force somebody out of a seat that they paid for because the airline f*cked up. YOU F*CKED UP. Why the hell does anybody have to lose their flight?

Whoever gave the green light for the random selection of passengers to remove should lose their job. You don't stop at $800 and a hotel night stay before you go to security. What the f*ck did they think was going to happen? You keep upping the money until somebody caves, which they will after it hits 2k. People like money. So instead of shelling out 2k and having it be done with, you now have a PR sh*tstorm which could honestly grow out of control. People are OUTRAGED right now.

Some airlines have private jets when they need employees elsewhere and a flight is booked. United is awful.

I was talking about this with my coworkers at lunch. It's such bullshit. I hope he gets rich suing the hell out of the airline.

Think about this. The guy said he was a doctor and he had to see patients in the morning. Now those appointments will be postponed causing a probable chain reaction that will delay further patients from seeing him. Who knows how sick those patients are. Also, he probably has a serious concussion after seeing the video where he got back on the plane. He was delirious. He'll have to be cleared before being allowed to go back to work.

United just f*cked so many people because THEY overbooked a flight.

Yeah

If the police tell me to get off a plane I'm politely getting off.

He doesn't own the plane. Most of you believe in private property. Why the **** do you think the company that owns the plane can't kick someone the **** off?

All the **** going on in the world and this goes viral lol

Oh so shocking that the police use force to enforce the law
