I dunno about the US or other countries, but here in Ireland prison is a ****ing joke. Sky TV, computers, regular visits, good meals, the whole bit. Why would you not want to go back when you get out? If they made (and I realise this is a controversial opinion, but **** it) jail a tougher, less bearable experience maybe people would be less eager to risk going back to it? It's hardly a deterrent as it is. Plus you have the gangs running things anyway so it must be hard to try to go straight after you get out.

Prison as a deterrent doesn't really work though. I think it is Norway or Finland that has excellent rehabilitation programs and their rate of prisoners returning is extremely low.

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Organizers have stripped Miss Turkey 2017 of her crown over a social media posting that was deemed insulting to the memory of the 250 people killed while opposing last year's failed military coup.

Miss Turkey organizers said the 18-year-old Itir Esen was dethroned on Friday, a day after she won the contest and the right to represent Turkey at the Miss World contest in China. The organizers said in an emailed statement that her title was revoked because of a tweet in July that they described as "unacceptable."

Runner-up Asli Sumen will now represent Turkey in China.

Media reports said Esen, a model and university student, caused a storm on social media after she posted a remark on Twitter as the country held memorials for the victims on the first anniversary of the July 15, 2016 coup attempt.

According to Sozcu newspaper and other media the tweet, which has since been erased, said: "I got my period on the morning of the July 15 martyrs' day. I'm marking the day by bleeding as a representation of the martyrs' blood."

You mean it just reads funny?

I'd like to know what goes through these guys heads when they throw acid into someone's face. I can understand wanting to punch someone or hit them with a weapon but acid in the face? Horrendous.

No of course it's ****ing horrible. I just mean yer man's comment, that he heard the commotion but thought "Oh yeah: West Ham are playing". The justification for not really thinking about it came across as mildly funny to me.
