It wasn't really a commune by the dictionary definition but I was apart of a homeschool "organization" that conglomerated a bunch of homeschooling families in the Rochester area. Families would partake in picnics, lawn parties, and sports mainly to keep the kids occupied. It was a really innocent affair overall I guess but there were some wack-ass individuals apart of it. I went to a couple of private Christian schools in my youth. I enjoyed the small student-to-teacher ratio, but the "teachers" weren't the least bit qualified to instruct ANYONE on ANY subject. It really was a disservice. No teaching degrees were required. No college degrees were required. My 5th grade teacher could barely read. He got kicked out of the Marines for doing drugs, and he was a strict a$$hole.

When he would read aloud to us and mess up the words, which he did every day, if we corrected him, he would get all angry and make us go to the front of the room and teach the class for the rest of the day "because we thought we were so smart."

It's not really a matter of intelligence as it is ignorance. I'd consider many of the kids smart but not having a grasp on social norms. Them not knowing how to tie their shoelaces isn't because they lack the capacity to learn to do so, it's that they never had to do cause they weren't given any shoes other than two-strap sandals.

Also that Christian school gob****e sounds awful. If I were exposed to that kind of learning environment for even a week I'd pop my own head off like a dandelion. If there's one thing that infuriates me about school more than anything else, it's the incompetence of instructors.
