"TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) - Think you can go without your smartphone for a whole year? Vitaminwater bets you can't.

The company says it's giving $100,000 to the person who can go without their smartphone for 365 days.

"The Vitaminwater brand stands for breaking the monotony, and intentionally behaving in ways that run against the status quo. Vitaminwater is challenging fans to take on this mission to call attention to the monotony found in their own day-to-day life —from scrolling through their social media to eating the same thing every day — in order to discover a more vibrant way of living outside of the lines," a statement on their website reads.

To enter the contest, create a Tweet or Instagram post “explaining how you would use your year if you took a break from your smartphone.” The post must include the hashtags #nophoneforayear and #contest.

The winner will be given a 2000s era phone with a monthly plan, in order to make calls and texts, but they must stay off their smartphone (and everyone else’s) for a year and will have to take a lie-detector test to make sure they follow the rules.

If they make it six months, they get $10,000. If they make it 12 months, they get $100,000.

Enter up to four times anytime between Tuesday, December 11 at 8 a.m. ET and Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at 11:59 p.m. ET.

There’s probably more of this going on than you realize. The district I taught in has several “academies” that focus on a trade (veterinarian assistant, auto and airplane mechanics, bank tellers -with $3 over the minimum wage guaranteed job for qualifying high school seniors)- and so on /// there’s also an alternative high school that teaches trades like auto body repair, plumbing, electrician work, carpentry /// but the actual trade schools / apprentice programs won’t **** with public schools because it’s ridiculously hard to get rid of problematic students. Some dude who’s serious about learning culinary **** isn’t going to put up with some high school pos talking over and even cussing out the instructor.

As it stands now high schools would be happy to teach anything but the structure of providing free child care in a commoncore curriculum obsessed environment makes it impossible to teach. Unless you’re in a really privileged situation you’ll always have those 3-5 kids who destroy every lesson by constantly shouting profanity all the time. They don’t want to learn a trade. They don’t want to learn to count or read. They want to yell the words n*gger bitch and f uck over and over again. And when you try to get that element removed from your class it’s hello Southern Poverty Law Center with the law suit because 90% of the kids who decimate the learning environment are black and somehow that’s your fault. So thanks to the SPLC instead of not educating 3-5 kids who refuse to be educated anyway nobody gets educated. And it’s other black kids who want to learn who suffer the most because they’re the ones stuck with those never stfu ****heads all day. Cue someone who hasn’t been there telling me I’m wrong. The NAACP and SPLC have made it impossible to educate millions of black youth. That’s a ****ing fact. They’d be better off under Ted Cruz’s care.

While I'm all for UBI [it sounds like that is the direction that you are going?], I don't see how being uneducated can benefit people.

If you are a business owner and have a job position to fill, would you rather hire a college grad or a high school drop-out?

We had plenty of lower to lower middle class negroes if that's what you're asking. If we had a class of thirty then somewhere between 5 to 10 of them might be black I guess.
