I heard on Coast to Coast with George Noory, they're going to use a satellite to crash into the pole, not a bomb.

I think people need to realise that this is not actually a very controversial topic. Unless you're working with this kind of stuff and have some ideas for a better solution when you take costs and effectiveness into account, then I think there's really little to worry about. Why worry if a bomb blows on the moon? They blow up down here all the time and here they can actually hurt people.

Personally, I just don't think it's so important to spend the tax dollars on sending a bomb to the moon just to see if there's water on it. At this point in the economy I think we're better served trying to deal with truly pressing issues rather than playing marbles with the cosmos.
I realize the implications that could benefit mankind later down the line, but we really need to learn how to focus on what's important now.

This isn't directly related to the thread, but I was reminded of it - if anyone wants a good laugh they should check out a guy named Ian Crossland and his YouTube channel (he's quite an internet celebrity at the moment) and his theory about how we should build an elevator to the moon...

"Just to see if there's water on it" is an extreme trivialization of the importance of such a discovery. If you ask me, american tax payers money have funded far worse things than this and I'm guessing compared to the money that have gone into the military, this is a drop in the ocean.

I did read once about a theorized plan to make a space lift that would bring you out of the earth's atmosphere. The trick would be to have an orbital station that remains to a fixed position on the planet surface. Then you could potentially lift things up without spending too much energy. One reason why it's a good idea is that it would make it simpler, cheaper and easier to send things into space. It takes a lot of energy to get stuff out there when starting from the ground and starting out there instead would at least eliminate some of those problems.

I think it was meant that discovery of evidence of water on the moon would be quite an important one if it were to happen.
