You'll find if you read the book in it's entirety and do a little research on the stuff you don't understand (ie looking at what the meaning in the original language) you'll find it internally consistent. The problem is it's been mis-quoted and mis-applied so many times that people just pull random quotes from random passages which are completely out of context.

I'd go into it more, and the entire arc and theme of the bible but I didn't nessicarily want to discuss that. I don't think the bible is to blame for these people. Obviously they have problems and they are using religion as a scapegoat to justify these attitudes and problems. So my problem with religion isn't that I don't believe in God, I do. It's not that I don't consider myself a Christian, I certainly do. It's that it's something that is tragically abused and has, almost since Christianity was founded, been misunderstood and completely based in non-scriptual teachings and traditions - a lot of it originating when it became accaeptable in Rome... alot of traditions from the cults and religions there were incorporated into the church for members.

I agree they are to blame for their own actions. But as a side note the Bible is very internally inconsistent, not surprising for a collection of different mythologies that has existed in different forms in different times and places.

I mean whether you agree with the ethics or not (which I won't take sides on), what isn't in harmony with what? I've studied the bible for a long time and maybe it's something i've come across before.

I've seen that website before. And not to sound like a prick but alot of it is downright innacurate. There's too much to cover on the entire site so I'm just asking for any one thing in particular. Not saying I can explain everything or that i'm some kind of expert but saying I might have a satisfying answer - and from a non-religious point of view (just da facts mayne).

EDIT: But then again this is exactly the kind of discussion I wanted to avoid.

Ah...well I won't keep at it then if you don't want me to.

I just want to point out that I was raised a Catholic and studied the bible for years myself. During those years, the parts pointed out on that website were conveniently left out. After doing a little research, all of those gospels and passages are there. There is a way to lead a Christian life the right way. My grandmother is the most devout Catholic I have ever met, and she should be considered a saint. I still think it is important to realize, if you are to follow the word of the bible to the t, that includes these passages pointed out on the website.
