Depression and suicide

Dude, I hate pills too. And it is also because of Zyprexa. I was on the maximum dosage when I was like, 13 or 14 years old (freshman in high school) because the shrink believed in turning people into zombies instead of actually trying to figure out the problem at hand. I gained probably 30 pounds because of that ****, and didn't get the weight off until after I graduated high school, was an adult, and able to say "no" to going back to the psychiatrist.

I think when you are depressed it takes a lot of effort to face the day. Sometimes you just think **** it I can't do this any more. Suicide is a pretty selfish act but when you're in that sort of head space you don't think anyone's going to care any way, or if they do you want them to hurt as much as you. All I can say is that things might be ****ed at the moment but if anyone reading this is bottoming out just hang in there. Life will always have it's ups and downs but it's worth getting through the downs. Take care and don't be scared to reach out and ask for help. People are a lot more caring that it might seem.

Just to but in here and drop an opinion without doing any other reading in the thread (at least I'm honest)

I don't think you can call suicide cowardly. I don't even think you can call it selfish. It depends on the circumstances, but in most situations you're talking about someone who has a mental disorder. Suicide hurts lots of people, not just the person who commits it. Despite this, in the mindset of a depressed suicide victim, it's not giving up, it's escape. And I think that's an important difference.

I don't believe that suicide is cowardly. You could shoot yourself and live, being disfigured for the rest of your life. You could hang yourself and have someone cut you down halfway through, leaving you a braindead vegetable. Most methods of suicide have atleast some risk of failure involved. It takes some guts to end your own life. If someone is considering suicide, people calling them a coward would only help to push them over the edge.

Exactly. Also, someone who wants to commit suicide may feel that they're doing their loved ones a favor. Perhaps they feel as if they're a burden.

I actually knew somebody who did exactly this. He got a surgically reconstructed face after a botched gunshot to the palate. It kind of made me respect him. He was depressed enough to shoot himself, failed, fucked up his face, burdened his loved ones and then went on living. I definitely never thought of him as a coward.

People who commit suicide are the ultimate cowards. Pretty much everyone has someone that depends on them or loves them. Kids, spouses, relatives, etc. Yeah, I think suicide is an escape for people who can't bear life anymore, but that's just being a complete coward in leaving kids or a wife or someone behind to deal with all these problems.

I don't believe for a second that nobody thinks about it. And for those who don't, they are idiots. Why wouldn't you think of the negative impact your own suicide could have on others? I mean whether they do think about it or not isn't really that important I guess. At the end of the day, they are still pure cowards killing themselves and leaving people they love to have to pick up all the pieces
