I read this funny article and thought that I would share it.

The basic jist of it is that, there was a study done showing that women under 30 are losing their "lady" skills. Knowing how to cook, sew, bake, clean properly are all falling by the waste side. I don't really agree with that study but the cooking part made my laugh so loud because in my experience I have come across quite a few females that are horrible cooks and I just ask them to wash the dishes while I cook instead.

That's a shame, but not because they're losing traditional housewife skills. I think those are skills that everyone should have, male or female. Anybody who lives a sloppy life, or thinks mac and cheese is the kitchen's holy grail is a moron to me.

....yeah ok great? What is the importance of this and what are you trying to convey? That list is disgusting. What are you trying to prove by demeaning a woman who can't cook? I would really like to know your reasoning behind this, Andrei. I can do all of those things on that list (except "I can give good you’re-being-an-idiot eyes", I'll just tell you you're an idiot). I don't feel this defines my "womanliness" as it is, but just typical of my personality and not the fact I have a vagina. I will also talk about taking a **** and not give a ****, because I'm still a woman, and I define that in myself. But what about the women who can't do any of those things? Why should that make them less of a woman?

I really don't think that his intention was to put women into any kind of box at all. I think he just stumbled upon the article and shared it because he found the factual information (that which the study revealed) to be relevant, and personally related to the study's findings.

Ah yeah, seems I jumped the gun. Sorry Andrei.

Still, I tried to find in the article some hint of irony or ANYTHING to tell me that it wasn't true. I feel like, really? We, ourselves, as women degrade ourselves to this?

The content of the study isn't particularly surprising to me. I'm sure there are a lot of factors contributing to the loss of these skills, from working moms failing to pass them on, to the absence of home economics classes in highschools. I imagine that any reason boys typically don't adopt them (except for the stigma of femininity) now apply to young women, since the playing field has been evened more, and expectations lessened.

I'll be honest though, and say that it's unfortunate, because being able to take care of one's self and habitat is something I expect of anybody.

Why cook when you can go to McDonalds? Sadly that's the commercial society solution.

Plus side is, women are often not able to learn these "mommy skills" because they are perusing professional opportunities that have only been around for the past 60-70 years.
