I'm not necessarily trying to be dismissive of the potential for a cure here. I'm just more of a pessimist and will keep seeing the glass half empty even with some minor positive results. Especially if there are still issues, though, even if it only works to cure 10% of all cases that's still 10% more survivors.

I think the first article you linked to is a little bit sensationalist, but after reviewing a lot of the information and taking a gander at the original study, this drug is most definitely promising.

Has it undergone human trials yet?

As far as I know, only very small scale yet. Much larger scale tests are needed to generate real statistics.
