A typical racist remark concerning the current misfortunes of a race. Basically this is just saying if you were crapped on once, it's your fault if you can't get back on your own two feet.

In otherwords, because many various tribes of the Indians are still existent, to group them all together as "Native Americans" is fallacious because it implies a commonality of history and current circumstance which simply does not exist. It's the implication of this imaginary totality which these terms reference which is problematic, not the terms themselves. This is why your post is problematic, because you're insisting on the reality of the imaginary.
Which has **** all to do with whether or not the Native Americans have been legitimately ****ed over by the US. Thanks for that pointless bit of trivia though.

Sure it does; you reference a nonexistent history wherein "Native Americans" were passive nonactors who merely felt the repercussions of "U.S." actions.

The problem with your analysis starts at the term "Native Americans"; it implies they thought of themselves as members of some over-arching group which encompassed all their tribes. This was not the case and it is not a minor point.

No, it really doesn't. Just because you choose to infer that doesn't mean that's what the term actually implies.

Let me further explain; the various tribes were participants in a massive game of realpolitik which involved established European powers, rebellion movements on the continent, and other tribes. Meaning, just as the various tribes didn't have one unifying policy regarding the U.S., the U.S. didn't have one unifying policy on tribes. Hence why using a phrase such as "Native Americans" in reference to historical events obfuscates historical truth and remains problematic when discussing problems facing the tribes in the U.S. due to the massive differences between, say, the Sioux and Coeur d'Alene and within the various differences within a tribe such as you can find between the Oglala & the Yankton.

I understand. Nevertheless, the term doesn't imply what you are claiming it implies.

How would you describe their current living conditions?

So because of that, the Native Americans haven't been pushed off their land and put on reservations? They haven't had the vast majority of their populations decimated? The US didn't engage in a policy of Manifest Destiny which left the Native Americans in a butt fucked situation?

They own the rights to it along with all of their casinos in California for retribution.
