Bah. I don't think I can continue this marriage conversation as my knowledge on this topic has reached its limits.

Well Sumeria didn't have one of 'those' gods, (though they did exist!) but they did have Inanna, which required certain marriages. I remembered it wrong, which I take it is a good sign I should quit now.
Inanna - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Quote:
The House of Heaven temple in Uruk was the greatest of these, where sacred prostitution was a common practice...After its dedication to Inanna the temple seems to have housed priestesses of the goddess. The high priestess would choose for her bed a young man who represented the shepherd Dumuzid, consort of Inanna, in a hieros gamos or sacred marriage, celebrated during the annual Akitu (New Year) ceremony, at the spring Equinox.
Lol. House of heaven.

and lol the marriage ceremony had to be conducted during the spring Equinox.

This was shortly before I got in trouble for saying "period" aloud too much.

I'm okay with respecting people's religions, I guess, as long as those religions respect everyone else. Sadly, this often seems to not be the case.
